Rivington and Blackrod

Power Wave Two exemplifies the entrepreneurial spirit of the school and its successful relations with the business community. The Diploma students we met were highly motivated.

The primary pathway is a great example of successful transition. The whole vision of the school was shared with and conveyed by the students.

Rivington & Blackrod , a large 7-18 1900 student population with many diverse & additional services both to students and the wider community .
This CofE school founded over 400 years ago provides both the standard curriculum plus the Diploma at a purpose built Media & Industry departments.
Its work with the community in the west of the town is part of a focussed multi agency partnership .
A deserved winner of the award .

Hadley

We have been privileged to have seen an all-through learning community where every aspect of the design has been carefully thought through with the needs of the individual learner in mind. The whole centre clearly works, two years on, based on the vision of the Executive Principal, who worked closely with the designers from very early on in the planning stage.

Recording studios at Rivington & Blackrod

I was very impressed indeed with the work done by students in the recording studio, and by the internet radio station they run from within the school. The students I saw were just so enthusiastic about it!

HLC

Definitely a must for a FV tour and a 0-17 ( 19 for Bridge ) school at the centre of its Telford & Wrekin community/authority - so much to see and admire in this purpose built PFI facility for over 1500 pupils when full.
Diploma course coming on stream in 2009 will increase pressure for a full 6th form option in time.
Considerable interface with the community - provision in adult learning, sport, drama, library.
However the state of the art approach to the area of special needs was the oustading feature, with its ability to take the most severe of cases, all linked into a full provision of health and social care support from the PCT & other agencies.
A most impessive visit with full credit to Gill and her three heads of schools.

HLC …. Big Impact!

One of the best designs I have seen for a school - large central space, wide corridors and manageable ‘fingers’.

Having come from a new build school I fully empathise with the time it takes to turn the WOW factor the building has to WOW in the learning processes.

A fantastic facility for the community, and clearly a very good example of how to spend £70M well.

With changes in the curriculum, increased community cohesion and raised student aspirations the school - I mean, Centre -  is well on the way to transforming schooling forever.

Great!

TLC really is tender loving care

One of the highlights at Springhill, the Turfmoor Learning Centre had a powerful impact on the visitors. So much impact for so little money, thanks to community commitment
