Futures Vision Bus Tours 2008

Foreword

For the last three years, SSAT has hosted bus tours to celebrate the achievements of specialist schools. We are delighted to announce that the theme of this year’s tours is ‘The school at the heart of the community’.

The Children’s Plan, building brighter futures talks of ‘a new role for schools at the centre of their communities’. The plan states that the government expects every school to be ‘uncompromising in its ambitions for achievement, sitting at the heart of the community it serves’ and ‘by investing in all of those who work with children, and by building capacity to work across professional boundaries we can ensure that joining up services is not just about providing a safety net for the vulnerable – it is about unlocking the potential of every child’.

The tours, one in the north and the other in the south, will visit award-winning schools that have been recognised for the contribution they have made to community engagement.

The southern tour runs from Monday 29 September until Wednesday 1 October. Beginning at Sawtry Community College in Cambridgeshire, it will move on to Canterbury Campus, Davison C of E High School for Girls and Technology College in Worthing, Arnewood School (New Milton), Royal Manor Arts College in Portland and Brixham Community College in Devon.

The northern tour begins on Monday 5 October at Springhill High School in Rochdale, after which it moves to City of Hadley Learning Centre, Rivington and Blackrod High School in Bolton, Newall Green High School in Wythenshawe, and Beacon Hill High School and Family Business Centre in Blackpool.
